Editor: Of course the mayors should fear downsizing in transit. TransLink has decided that if the suburbs don鈥檛 provide them with any more money, it is going to make all kinds of threats.
That鈥檚 how TransLink gets its money. Make a promise, find out it doesn鈥檛 have the money, ask for more money, then take away the promise when it doesn鈥檛 get what it asks for.
Shake your heads folks. TransLink needs to start looking at its shortfalls and fixing them 鈥� like making people who use the system, pay for the system.
We out here in 鈥楽outh of the Fraser鈥� have little or no services, so why are we subsidizing those who do have almost free access to transit services?
Why is it that those of us out here 鈥楽outh of the Fraser鈥� are subsidizing salaries of over $100,000 a year for TransLink police officers who do not work south of the Fraser?
Why are we paying for huge bonuses to senior executives of TransLink, and for what? Why do we not have transit services that have value to those of us out here who may want or need those services?
I鈥檓 starting to think that it鈥檚 time that South of the Fraser developed its own transit system, and stop funding a system that cares more about giving money to the already salary-bloated executives than providing services to the people who are paying their salaries.
And the mayors need to take heed of that as well. They are, after all, paid by the taxpayer.
