Letter: Participation is necessary for a democratic society to function

Editor: True democracy may be an unattainable ideal, but elections give ordinary British Columbians an opportunity to influence the future priorities and moral standards of our provincial government.

The qualities and skills of a candidate are more important than his or her party affiliation.

Don鈥檛 thoughtlessly vote for a glib self-serving opportunist who parrots party propaganda in an effort to further the interests of an elite few; support the principled pragmatist who has a track record of actively and competently serving your community.

As current world events reveal, democracy needs nurturing and our participation is essential.
