Dear Editor,

[Re: Bylaw process feels sneaky, 91Ô´´ Advance Times, June 15]

We have read a lot about 91Ô´´ City’s proposed bylaw to borrow $15 million for SkyTrain property acquisition lately. One of the confusing things about the alternative approval process is the way the process was laid out in the newspaper ad, defining Resident and Non-Resident property electors. The ad was unclear on whether you had to own property in order to vote – you do not. In addition, the response forms themselves have been combined, so again folks may be confused on who is eligible to vote.

I have confirmed with the City that all residents of 91Ô´´ City (owners and renters) over 18 years old may vote as Resident Electors, provided they are Canadian citizens, have lived in B.C. for at least six months, and have not been disqualified by the Local Government Act or any other enactment from voting in an election or be otherwise disqualified by law.

You do not need to be on the voters’ list to be eligible.

When you sign and date the form, you must use your full name (need middle name and no initials), otherwise the ballot will be spoiled. All ballots must be received by 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 18, 2023.

It is important that your voice is heard, and that we, residents, ask City council to go back and re-think how we can reduce costs to the taxpayers of 91Ô´´.

Vicki Krell, 91Ô´´ City
