Dear Editor,
I’m confident you receive a numerous amount of emails on this subject, please add mine to the list.
As you are aware, it’s being advertised and strongly advised that all individuals over 50 years old get the shingles and RSV vaccine(s) as the rising number of cases have now warranted this recommendation.
I phoned my pharmacy and was shocked to learn that neither vaccine is covered under MSP and actually, not under my employer's health plan either.
Is this actually true? No coverage for seniors (whom it will affect the most)?
My husband and I are seniors and will need to pay $211 twice for shingles and $293 for RSV for a total of $715 plus taxes and dispensing fees for each of us. Therefore, the total will be over $1,500 to get these vaccines that are highly recommended (also benefiting our health and the health-care system).
I’m a 3x cancer survivor… and still need to pay?
I’m sure you’re one of the fortunate people wherein won’t have to worry about this cost in your future, but, what can other seniors do who cannot afford it?
Their health is as important as others!
I don’t see how this will assist in alleviating the burden on medical/hospital care!
This is unacceptable and so, so unfair!
I understood seniors would be treated fairly in our system!
Is there any recourse?
