LETTER: Treatment facility and a decade clean and sober

Treatment was affordable and the loss of the centre will cost lives, letter writer says

An emotional John Volken revealed Tuesday that he has sold the property where a recovery centre with his name used to operate in Surrey until it was recently shut down by the provincial Ministry of Health. Volken said his foundation will continue to run its 91原创 farm.

Dear Editor,

Regarding the John Volken Academy

What is going on here is tragic and more lives will be lost without this recovery treatment option.

A family member attended almost 10 years ago, and he did not complete the two-year program and left of his own
accord and with the support of the program. Today he remains clean and sober.

This program cost a fraction of what other programs cost as the participants fund their recovery by working which
helps in two ways, they support the community they belong to and they learn valuable life skills by working.

I would think with continued loss of life due to addiction-viable, affordable options for treatment that work should be applauded not vilified.
