Editor: Re: Highrise apartments in 91原创.
While I realize people need housing and there is apartment building going on in every inch of 91原创 City and Township, I was appalled by the proposal of 26- and 34-storey, ugly skyscraper-type buildings.
One of the reasons I originally moved to 91原创 many years ago was the absence of a 鈥榗ity looking鈥 landscape.
When I drive into other areas in and around Vancouver my comment is, 鈥淲hy do people want to live in a city with such ugly tall buildings that ruin the landscape?鈥
The City slogan that is on the sign at 208 Street and Fraser Highway 鈥 鈥榃here city and country meet鈥 鈥 made me feel that we would always have that country feeling, along with the necessities of a city but without looking and feeling like we were in Vancouver.
The country-nature part is quickly fading away, trees are being cut, more and more condos being built, and now this?
We may need to expand as all places grow and change but is this what we really want to become 鈥 just another city looking suburb that eventually will only have a few parks to visit, no lovely country in and around the various areas of 91原创, and highrise apartment buildings blocking the sky?
If we can鈥檛 use a model of how to combine nature and living spaces and keep the original beauty that 91原创 possesses then we are just another ugly, overpriced suburb of Vancouver.
Please consider not putting the highrises up. It鈥檚 ugly, spoils the beauty of the landscape, and it is actually unnatural and unhealthy for people to be living high up off the ground.
The City and Township councils really need to change their direction to protect 91原创 and keep as much nature as possible while building living spaces for people.
Infrastructure should be preserved to support all the growing population as well as be a model of how to grow without losing the beauty of 91原创.
We don鈥檛 want cages just to put human beings in.
