Editor: This is a response to the written by Monique Tamminga titled 鈥淏razen thefts on rise in City,鈥� (The Times, April 5).

I find Mayor Peter Fassbender鈥檚 comments in this article interesting. He states that the crime rate in the City of 91原创 is going down, but doesn鈥檛 cite what study or survey is the source of his knowledge.

It is also very interesting that Mayor Fassbender was very protective of the RCMP during their recent contract negotiations, but now when residents of 91原创 like myself question the way things are going in our city, he throws Supt. Derek Cooke 鈥渦nder the bus鈥� by saying that if residents are not happy, they need to complain.

What good is complaining to RCMP management going to do if we, as residents, can鈥檛 get the RCMP officers to respond anyway? My apartment building was one of those that were broken into recently, and I personally had to call the dispatcher multiple times until they finally decided to do me a favour and send an officer to take a report.

The officer arrived at 3 a.m. but was quick to leave to another break and entering call. Of course he didn鈥檛 come back, as he said he would. I had to call yet once again the following day to coerce the dispatcher to send someone to finish the report.

I know the mayor was recently re-elected, so he is not expected to be accountable for anything that happens in this city until the next election.  When multiple break-ins happen with little or no police response within such a short amount of time, it is time for him to pick up the phone again.

I say to him, the platitudes are getting old, because if you and your administration are investing your valuable time in rubber stamping all of these new condo complexes in this city, you might want to think about protecting these residents.

I know the neighbourhood he lives in doesn鈥檛 have to worry about crime, but not all of his constituency is as fortunate. So don鈥檛 just let us eat cake.
