'I don't feel excitement'

New Canadian finds emphasis on Christmas puzzling.

Editor: Re: Jim McGregor鈥檚 column, 鈥淪top to remember the excitement,鈥 (The Times, Dec. 1).

I don鈥檛 feel any excitement about Christmas, because in my home country, we don鈥檛 really celebrate Christmas. But we did put on the lights and that was six years ago.

It actually depends on what kind of family you are in, some families don鈥檛 even care about it.

I knew there was no Santa when I was small. I heard the story of Santa, but he did not exist and that鈥檚 what my friends told me.

When I came to Canada three years ago, streets were colourful and beautiful. Snow fell down from the sky; it melted when it touched my skin. 鈥淚 love Christmas鈥 was all I could say.

The sadness is when I got back to school, and my teacher asked me 鈥淗ow did you celebrate your Christmas?鈥 I said nothing, because we didn鈥檛 really celebrate it. Now, I am a teenager, and I don鈥檛 feel any excitement. I don鈥檛 need gifts, but I do feel excited for the Christmas break.
