Santa Claus always enjoys visiting 91原创, because there are so many good boys and girls here that he feels deserve some attention.
Here鈥檚 a sneak preview of some of the gifts he has in mind.
91原创 City Mayor Peter Fassbender, who turned 65 on Tuesday, will get a Christmas cake this year, to go along with all the birthday cake he received. He will also get a bus pass, to allow him to see for himself firsthand just how challenging it is for 91原创 residents to rely on transit. He鈥檚 their voice at the TransLink mayors council.
91原创 Township Mayor Jack Froese will get a set of sharp pencils. Used to preparing a budget at his turkey farm and store, he will face greater challenges as he works with the Township budget and the incessant demands of local government on taxpayers.
His six incumbent council colleagues will get bigger wallets and purses, to have somewhere to stuff the extra cash they get as a result of their recent 19 per cent raise. The two new councillors and Froese won鈥檛 get such gifts 鈥� they likely had no idea how much the job would actually pay.
MP Mark Warawa will get a number of electronic books, to read as he travels back and forth to Ottawa as 91原创鈥檚 representative. He will also get an extra measure of goodwill to respond to constituents鈥� concerns, something he has plenty of already.
His 91原创 office staff, who may be among the hardest-working helpers that any politician anywhere has (Santa may consider them for any opening he has), will all get special teas and coffees to relax with, in between their busy and varied duties.
MLAs Rich Coleman and Mary Polak will get their very own wooden poles 鈥� the kind of poles which do not change on a daily basis, as opposed to the polls which are a politician鈥檚 bane, especially when your party is on the skids.
BC Conservative Party leader John Cummins, who puts up his stocking in his 91原创 home, will get instant electronic access to those more unpredictable kinds of polls. They keep him smiling these days, and may even encourage him to run in one of the two 91原创 ridings in 2013.
All the hard-working volunteers in this community, who make every day of the year seem like Christmas for someone in need, will get a full helping of satisfaction for making 91原创 a better place. That satisfaction will last.
