Editor: Do George Abbott, Christy Clark, and the rest of the Liberal caucus understand the full implications of Bill 22, or are they breaking Canadian constitutional and international labour laws knowingly? According to highly-respected UBC Faculty of Law professor Joel Bakan, Bill 22 severely undermines collective bargaining, which is guaranteed not only by Canadian laws but also by international laws.
The bill seems to be illegal, but the Liberals demand that the teachers abide by it. So it appears that the Liberals are requiring the teachers to conform to an illegal law, while they themselves are likely contravening Canadian and international laws. I hope the Liberals just don鈥檛 understand and are not deliberately trying to provoke a full-fledged strike.
