When Target opens in the store currently occupied by Zellers, it will have its own distinctive look, inside and out, to mark its corporate branding.
It has the opportunity to really stand out from the grey, featureless concrete walls of other retail stores by creating a 鈥渓iving wall.鈥
The suggestion was made on Monday, July 9 by Councillor Kim Richter just as council approved a development permit for the store鈥檚 exterior renovations.
These include trees. Councillor Charlie Fox noted that plans show no vegetation, 鈥渙nly phantom trees.鈥 A few trees on the south side of the building 鈥渨ould certainly help.鈥
鈥淵ou certainly need something to soften the wall,鈥 he said.
Council unanimously supported Fox鈥檚 bid to urge Target to double the number of trees proposed for the south wall, and Richter鈥檚 suggestions for a living wall.
Few such walls exist in 91原创. The BMW/Mini dealership in the City鈥檚 new Collections auto mall on Glover Road has a living wall that is covered with plants of varying shades of green from top to bottom.
