Young boy alerts mother to fire next door
A suspicious fire at 7820 216 st on Sunday, Feb. 3, destroys 1930s home.
A suspicious fire early Sunday morning destroyed a home on 216 Street.

Township Councillor David Davis鈥 young son is being credited for alerting his mom to a fire at a neighbouring home.

Nicole Davis called 911 at 6:20 a.m. Sunday, after her son looked out the window and saw smoke and flames coming from the home, located at 7820 216 Street.

Fire fighters from several fire halls were called out to battle the blaze, which is considered suspicious, said assistant fire chief Bruce Ferguson.

The fire was started on the outside of the house, he said.

鈥淣o one was home at the time,鈥 Ferguson said. It鈥檚 believed the owners were on a vacation.

鈥淭he home was destroyed,鈥 he said. 鈥淭he house was built really well and we couldn鈥檛 get inside. It was difficult to knock down.鈥

Loss of the home is estimated at around $400,000. Messages on Facebook indicated many neighbours went to the home quickly to see if there was anything they could do. Facebook messages had neighbours writing about how sad they were for the family and their loss of personal, irreplaceable items.
