Approximately 1,300 union workers, one-third of ICBC鈥檚 unionized workforce, staged a one-day strike on Wednesday to protest lagging contract talks.
The walk-out at the 91原创 Driver Services centre coincided with a water pipe break, which was discovered on Wednesday morning. A restoration company was mopping up at the Logan Avenue/203 Street centre, as the employees walked the picket line. The centre will not reopen until (today) Tuesday, Oct. 9.
The ICBC employees belong to the Canadian Office and Professional Employees union, Local 378, who have been without a contract for more than two years.
