A 36-year-old man was stabbed in downtown Mission on Thursday night (May 16) after fishing in the area.

The man was taken to hospital and suffered a non-life-threatening injury, according to a Mission RCMP news release. The suspect in the incident wasn鈥檛 found.

Mounties were called downtown just before 10:30 p.m. after reports of a man stabbed in the arm near the intersection of North Railway Avenue and Lougheed Highway.

Mission RCMP met with the man, who had been fishing with a friend along the riverbank in the area.

He finished fishing for the night and walked to the train tracks when another man approached him. Police say an altercation arose and the suspect stabbed the victim in the arm before running away.

RCMP closed down a portion of North Railway Avenue while a police dog searched the area.

Police say the suspect is described as 5鈥7鈥 tall, with a short buzz-cut hairstyle. He wore a dark grey hoody with grey pants and had a bicycle with him.

The investigation is ongoing and no one has been arrested.

Those with information are urged to call Mission RCMP at 604-826-7161. File 24-5605.
