1 found deceased in house fire in Seabird Island

The RCMP have confirmed one person has died in a residential fire in the Seabird Island community east of Agassiz. 

On Sunday, Feb. 23, at 4:52 p.m., the Agassiz and Chilliwack RCMP were called out to assist at the scene of the fire at the 8300 block of Sthitsem Drive; firefighters were already on the scene. The Agassiz Fire Department (AFD) located the deceased person inside the home. The Agassiz RCMP General Investigation Services (GIS) is working with the AFD to determine the cause and circumstances of the fire. At this time, the fire is not believed to be suspicious. 

The B.C. Coroners Service is investigating the death of the individual. The identity of the deceased has not been confirmed as of Tuesday (Feb. 25) and no further details will be released at this time.
