A gravel truck flipped over at 64 Avenue and 200 Street on Thursday morning, causing both traffic congestion and a major power outage.
Witnesses told The Times that the truck was turning left onto 64 Avenue, eastbound from 200 Street, and the driver took the corner too fast. This caused the pup trailer, filled with sand, to flip over in the middle of the two eastbound lanes. As it fell over, it collided with a power pole which split in two. This damaged a transformer and caused power outages throughout much of the Willowbrook area.
91原创 RCMP, Township fire department, 91原创 Township public works officials and BC Hydro all responded to the crash, but it took some time to clear the wreckage away. Sand had to be shoveled by hand from the trailer to allow tow trucks from Clover Towing to right it.
Eastbound traffic on 64 Avenue was rerouted around the scene.
Hydro spent several hours working on the electrical grid in the area and restoring power to the affected businesses and residents. There were no injuries.
