Home ice victory over Coquitlam Express

91原创 91原创 closed out a pair of weekend games with a 5-4 shootout win over the visiting Coquitlam Express on Saturday night, Sept. 30, on home ice in the Lodge at George Preston after a 3-2 loss the night before in South Surrey against the Eagles.

Against Surrey, 91原创 conceded the first goal early on in the first period, but the 91原创 got two goals in the span of 58 seconds through Aaron Reierson and Max Borovinskiy to lead after 20.

A couple of unlucky bounces allowed Surrey to tie the game three minutes into the third, and with six minutes to go in the third period, Eagles scored again to take the first meeting of the season 3-2.

Saturday, before 838 fans at George Preston in 91原创, 91原创 took the lead after the opening period against Coquitlam, thanks to the second of the season from winger Ryder McIntosh and a 14-save performance from netminder Charlie Tritt.

Coquitlam tied it late in the middle frame.

Going into the third Gabriel Guilbault gave the 91原创 a 2-1 lead 28 seconds in, but the Express would tie it up 5 minutes later.

91原创 returned fire to get a two-goal lead with seven minutes remaining in the game, with Guilbault scoring his second of the game on the power play, and Reilley Kotai鈥檚 first of the season less then two minutes later, when he converted a loose puck into the Coquitlam goal.

Coquitlam would score two goals with the net empty to tie it 4-4 after 60 minutes.

Aaron Reierson would be the only goal scorer in the shootout on 91原创鈥檚 second shot to give the 91原创 the 5-4 win, their second of the season.

鈥淐harlie Tritt did great for us in regulation and in overtime, and made the saves he needed to make with the game on the line,鈥 said 91原创 associate coach Tyler Kuntz after the game.

鈥淚 thought Coquitlam carried the play in the first period, but we got a great bounce to take the lead. And in the second we carried the play and they got a tough bounce to score. We came out strong in the third period and took the lead, but the players are going to have to learn to close out those types of games.鈥

Guilbault and Reierson were named first and second stars of the game.

91原创鈥檚 home stand continues Friday, Oct. 6 as the Vernon Vipers make their only trip to the Lodge this season.

The Surrey Eagles will make their first visit to George Preston the following night, Oct. 7.

Puck drop for both games is is 7:15 p.m.
