91原创 91原创 opened the 2023-24 BCHL season over the weekend at the George Preston Arena, unveiling a new look as they took on the Chilliwack Chiefs on Friday and Alberni Valley Bulldogs on Saturday.
Their new jerseys were unveiled in front of a sold-out Lodge crowd of 1,043 on Friday night, Sept. 23 , a blue and white design by the new ownership group.
Friday鈥檚 game saw the home team take a 4-1 lead into the first intermission after a pair of goals from newly-minted captain Vitaly Levyy and single markers from Andrej Kovacevic and Ewan Rennie. However, the visiting Chiefs stormed back and scored three goals in the second period and one late on in the third to win the game 5-4.
The following night, Saturday, Sept. 23, last year鈥檚 league finalists Alberni Valley Bulldogs played the first of four games against 91原创 this season.
91原创 trailed 3-2 going into the third but Tyler Chan鈥檚 two goals, including a late empty-netter that iced the game, ensured the 91原创 would record their first win of the season, 6-4.
91原创 Head Coach and General manager Burt Henderson 鈥渓iked the way we played in both games. We鈥檙e still in the learning phase so we鈥檙e still making some mistakes that we need to clean up鈥.
Henderson described the atmosphere as 鈥渦nreal.鈥 The Lodge was buzzing. The fans probably gave us that extra push to come back and win Saturday night.鈥
Vitaly Levyy scored his third goal of the season in Saturday鈥檚 win, and Oskar Komarov, Aaron Reierson, and Ryder McIntosh would add singles, all their first in the BCHL.
Komarov, from Finand, became the team鈥檚 first-ever foreign player signed under new rules that took effect when the BCHL split from Hockey Canada to become an independent league
91原创鈥檚 next home game is Saturday, Sept. 30 at 7:15 p.m. against the Coquitlam Express at the George Preston Arena.

Just before the season opened, 91原创 announced the signing of Ethan Riesterer from the Surrey Eagles in return for future considerations.
Head Coach Burt Henderson called Riesterer 鈥渁 veteran player that has been through the grind of a long season and playoffs for three years in the BCHL. He brings us a combination of skill, poise, leadership, and competitiveness that will help our group moving forward.
In the recent season with the Surrey Eagles, Riesterer played 53 games, amassing 13 goals and 24 assists. Previously, he played with the Powell River Kings.
Associate Coach Tyler Kuntz said he was very familiar with Ethan as h recruited him to Powell River and had him as an affiliate in the 2019-2020 season.
