VIDEO: Aldergrove Skating Club team receives gold

Three teams competed in the West Coast Challenge on Saturday, Feb. 15

Aldergrove skaters took first place again at the West Coast Challenge competition on Saturday, Feb. 15, which includes teams from across B.C. and Alberta.

The Aldergrove Skating Club had three teams participating: Star 6 Snow Crystals, Star 8 Icicles, and Adult 11 Ice Spirits.

Club president Cashmere Roder said they hoped for at least second place for the Snow Crystals' Spiderman routine, but was pleasantly surprised when they won gold.

"Our screams of shock and excitement rang throughout the building," she recalled.

It follows the Snow Crystals win from just two weeks prior at the Mountain Regionals Sychronized Skating competition in Richmond.

The Ice Spirits took him silver, and the Icicles came home with bronze.

Additionally, skaters Ariel Parent earned a silver in the Bronze Freeskate, and Natasha Schenderling won bronze in the Silver Freeskate.

"We are very proud of our three teams and our adult skaters," said Roder.

"Their dedication and hard work truly shine on the ice, and we couldn't be prouder of their achievements."

The club is hosting its Pop Concert on Friday, March 7, before moving to an Abbotsford rink until the end of August.

Aldergrove Skating Club offers a wide range skating programs all year, including learn to skate, synchronized skating, figure skating development and private lessons with certified professional coaches.
