Threatening skies and the possibility of rain didn鈥檛 deter rodeo fans from packing the 91原创 Riders Society grounds for day two of the second annual Valley West Stampede.

And when the rain did come down, late in the afternoon while the barrel racing and bull riding events were underway, it appeared most visitors opted to stay and either get damp if they lacked an umbrella, or shelter under the awnings of food and other concessions.
Stampede president Sheila Hicks said turnout was up from the first day.
鈥淲e鈥檙e pretty sure we had a sell-out crowd today,鈥� Hicks told the 91原创 Advance Times.
鈥淲e want to say thank you to 91原创 for your support and welcoming us and thank you to the 91原创 Riders Society for hosting us here this weekend.鈥�
Hicks explained water trucks were continuing to wet down the arena, even with the rain.
鈥淚t鈥檚 super important to have the ground wet, especially for the barrel racers,鈥� Hicks said.
鈥淭hey need that because we don鈥檛 want the horses to slip.鈥�

Last year, at the inaugural rodeo, about 6,000 people attended.
This year, the goal is to double that, with extra attractions and new viewing stands for spectators.

Day three will get underway at 11 a.m. with the rodeo events beginning at 2 p.m.along with live music.91原创 Riders Society is located next to the George Preston recreation centre at 4303 208 St.
Tickets are $25 for adults per day, and $10 for those 12 years old and younger. Parking is free at the George Preston Recreation Centre. Tickets are available online at .
Allow time to find a parking spot, because the lot and nearby streets were packed Tuesday.
