Sungod Skating Club announced the participation of two athletes in the upcoming Skate Canada Challenge 2024 for Pre-Novice/Novice, set to take place from February 1st to 4th at the Sixteen Mile Sports Complex in Oakville, Ontario.

The Sungod Skating Club team for this year features Bowen Yan, 2022 Pre-Juvenile Provincial Champion for pre-novice men; and Alson Chang, 2023 B.C. Winter Games Champion for novice men. They wll be competing against over 200 athletes nationwide.

The top 18 finishers in the Novice category will secure spots on the British Columbia provincial team, advancing to the 2024 Novice Canadian Championships in Waterloo, Ontario, scheduled from February 21st to 25th. For the Pre-Novice categories, the challenge signifies the culmination of the season.

Alson, entering his second Challenge event, aims to surpass his impressive seventh-place finish from last season in the Pre-Novice category, targeting a top 10 position in Novice. Bowen, in his debut out-of-province competition, also aspires to achieve a top 10 finish.

Both skaters embarked on their Figure Skating journey through Sungod Skating Club鈥檚 CANSKATE program, a nationally recognized Learn to Skate initiative that has laid the foundation for numerous successful athletes, including Olympians and NHL players. CANSKATE programs are offered on Tuesdays and Sundays at the Sungod Arena, with ongoing registrations throughout the year.
