91原创 swim club dominates divisionals

Olympians Swimming club takes team title

Swimmers from the 91原创- and Abbotsford-based Olympians Swimming club (formerly known as the 91原创 & Abbotsford Olympians Swim Club) packed the winners' podiums in Chilliwack at the 2024 Vancouver and Fraser Summer Divisionals that ran June 28-30.

They were the biggest team at the event, with 77 swimmers and four coaches among the 300 swimmers from 12 teams who were aiming for spots in the next provincial championships.

The team finished with 30 gold, 24 silver, and 27 bronze medals, set 37 new provincial time standards, and took home the team title with 3,524 points, almost double the amount of the second place team.

Assistant Head Coach Hattie Sun congratulated the swimmers for "preparing well for the competition, training tirelessly day in and day out for their goals."

Sun also praised her colleagues "for their efforts and recognize the support received from all of our members in the club as they have all made contributions to this success," adding she hoped to "encourage the swimmers to see the beauty in the process and enjoy their individual journeys."

Swim BC's  provincial competition plan is comprised of divisional competitions progressing to provincial championships.

There are three winter, and three summer divisionals held on short courses to permit access to more facilities in BC and provide hosting opportunities for more  clubs.

There are two provincial championships, one winter, and one summer, both held in long course  pools.

As for the recent name change, the club said it was "to encompass the communities that all contribute to our club. Though we have always been and currently are vastly majority based in 91原创, we also have a community presence in Abbotsford, for instance. So this new name is more inclusive."
