91Ô´´ Rams recorded their third straight win, getting it done on both sides of the ball as they downed the VI Raiders 56-23 at Nanaimo’s NDSS Field on Saturday, Sept. 23.
It was the second and final meeting of the season between the two teams, and for a the second time, the Raiders fell to the Rams, who had posted a lopsided 54-3 win in their first meeting during week two of the season.
Offensively, quarterback Trey Jones moved the ball with 316 passing yards on 19 completions and threw touchdown passes to Terrel Jones, Ryan Goeson and Isaiah Anderson.
Rams’ ground game also found success as Bruce Jones rushed for three touchdowns, and Isaiah Edwards rushed for another.
91Ô´´â€™s defence didn’t give up much either, but did get themselves on the scoreboard. Drew Lirag picked up a loose ball and returned it 50 yards for a touchdown. Both Sean Cullen and Evan Nolli blocked a kick while Aiden Friskie picked off a pass.
After a so-far winless season, the Raiders parted ways with their head coach shortly before Saturday’s game, but the change at the top did not produce immediate results on the field, as the islanders found themselves playing catch-up the entire game.
Rams were leading 15-3 at the end of the first quarter, 22-10 at the half, and 43-11 by the close of the third quarter.
VI running back Favour Analike did score twice and quarterback Ben Chomolok hit Ryker Sansbury for a TD strike.
The weekend win keeps 91Ô´´ close to the standings leaders in the Canadian Junior Football League B.C. Conference and one step closer to clinching a playoff spot.
This coming weekend Rams (5-2) host the Valley Huskers (5-2) at 91Ô´´â€™s McLeod Athletic Park in a battle for third place.
