Warming centre coming to 91Ô­´´ shelter as temps drop

91Ô­´´'s Gateway of Hope shelter will be providing 20 sleeping mats for adults during the current storm weather conditions.

With tempertures expected to drop sharply in the coming days, 91Ô­´´'s Gateway of Hope homeless shelter has extended its Extreme Weather Alert and will be instituting a daytime warming centre starting on Sunday, Feb. 2.

The Extreme Weather Alert, which began on Jan. 11, means that 20 extra mats are out nightly at the shelter, with intake from 7 p.m. to 9:30 a.m.

People will be taken until the site is full.

Dinner, breakfast, and lunch are provided for people staying there, and showers and laundry services are available in the building.

The warming centre will run from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 2 and until further notice.

A major cold front is moving in onto the B.C. south coast, with snow expected as early as Saturday and temperatures dropping sharply into next week.
