Three separate multi-vehicle collisions had the 216th Street overpass in 91原创 heavily congested Thursday morning, Feb. 15.

The three unrelated incidents took place between 7:30 and 8 a.m.

7:35 a.m.

91原创 RCMP responded to the first collision just north of Highway 1 on 216th Street.

A Dodge sedan that was travelling south and a Jeep travelling north on 216th Street collided. The Jeep attempted a left turn onto the Highway 1 on-ramp and was struck by the Dodge sedan, explained Cpl. Craig van Herk with the 91原创 RCMP.

Both vehicles were not driveable and were towed from the site.

7:50 a.m.

Police were soon called to a second collision on 80th Avenue/University Drive, just east of 216th Street.

A Nissan Pathfinder was travelling east on University Drive followed by an Audi. Just after crossing 216th Street, the Nissan slowed and made a U-turn to head back west on University Drive.

The Audi then collided with the rear driver side of the Nissan when it was halfway through its turn.

7:55 a.m.

The third collision occurred just south of Highway 1 on 216th Street at approximately 7:55 a.m.

A Chevrolet Volt facing south was waiting to turn left onto the eastbound on-ramp to Highway 1. Northbound traffic on 216th Street was heavily congested due to the first collision.

The Volt attempted to make its left turn and a Toyota Rav4 travelling north on 216th Street in the right lane collided with the Volt as it turned.

鈥淎t this point, investigation has determined these to be three separate collisions,鈥 van Herk said.

However, he noted that congested traffic may have played a part in the third collision but it was not the cause.

Traffic flow was reduced to an alternating single lane while crews cleared the scene.

No injuries were reported.

As of approximately 9 a.m., traffic flow could pass as normal.
