Mike Gee has been keeping a careful eye on the weather forecast for Sunday, June 2 as the 91原创 City resident prepares for the third annual Seamus鈥� Stroll for a Stronger Community to honour the memory of his late son by raising funds for youth initiatives.

鈥淚t looks like it might be raining, but we鈥檙e hoping that won鈥檛 deter people,鈥� Gee told the 91原创 Advance Times.

鈥漌e鈥檙e still going to be there. We have a picnic shelter. We鈥檙e going to have coffee and snacks, and a [by-donation] barbecue afterwards.鈥�

Hosted by the Seamus Gee Legacy Project in Campbell Valley Park, at the Old Orchard picnic shelter by the 8th Ave. and 204th St. entrance, registration opens at 10 a.m. and the walk starts at 11 a.m.

Money raised will go to help support the youth in the community and Foundry 91原创, operated by the local Encompass Support Services Society which provides health care, mental health and drug counselling, and social services to teens and young adults..

In its first two years, the stroll raised $6,000 while attendance doubled from 50 the first year to more than 100 in the second.

After Seamus died in 2019, at the age of 16, his dad began holding fundraising events for the recently-opened Foundry.

Mike also established the non-profit to help local students access trades programs, as well as community and school sports programs.

An online memorial described Seamus as 鈥渁 kind, gentle soul with a massive heart [who] was courageous and delightfully brilliant, a lover of all animals and nature, he was adventurous and had a very curious mind.鈥�
