Two 91ԭ residents – including one from Aldergrove – are featured actors in Gallery 7 Theatre’s upcoming production of ‘The Sound of Music.’

The play follows the story of Maria, a young nun, in the Austrian Alps when she is commissioned to serve as governess to the children of the Captain von Trapp. She brings music and joy to the household, eventually gaining the respect from the children and love of the Captain.

However, the shadow of Nazism grows and threatens Austrian sovereignty. Maria and the von Trapps are faced with tough choices that could overturn their previously happy existence.

“We’re very excited to be presenting this beloved musical,” said Ken Hildebrandt, executive and artistic director.

“We’ve worked hard to honour what so many love and cherish about the show while mining some of the deeper themes about discovering one’s place in the world, standing up for what’s right, being true to self and your values, finding healing, and growing up in challenging times.”

Playing the iconic roles of Maria and Captain von Trapp are Raelyn Schatz and Liam Whatley. The role of Max Detweiller is being played by Peter Shaver, and Ruthie MacKenzie is portraying Elsa Schraeder. Mother Abbess is played by Bethany Caldwell.

Jaimee Huttema from Aldergrove will be playing the role of Liesl (one of the von Trapp children), and 91ԭ resident Hannah Richmond will be in an ensemble role.

‘The Sound of Music’ will run March 15 and 16, and 20 to 23 at 7:30 p.m. each day. Matinees will be on March 16, 23, and 24 at 2 p.m.

It takes place at the Abbotsford Arts Centre on 2329 Crescent Way.

Tickets start at $22 and can be purchased online at .
