Pat McCutcheon will run for the Green Party of Canada in the upcoming byelection for the Cloverdale-91原创 City electoral district.

McCutcheon told the Cloverdale Reporter  Nov. 11 he'd be running to be the next Member of Parliament for the riding.

In an email to the Reporter, McCutcheon said he's taking the byelection "very seriously" because he sees problems with the health-care system that need to be solved, affordability issues, and a toxic drug crisis that needs to be addressed.

"What happens in Ottawa matters to our daily lives here," he wrote. "We need an MP who puts our community first. Cloverdale-91原创 City deserves a strong voice in Parliament who will put our local needs ahead of party interests."

McCutcheon said he feels uniquely suited to represent the riding because he has a connection here.

"Cloverdale-91原创 City is my home. My wife and I raised our sons here. We've made close friends here. We're part of this caring community where neighbours look out for each other."

McCutcheon urged residents to mark an X next to his name when the byelection polls open.

"Our community faces real challenges that need real solutions," he wrote. "Healthcare wait times are too long. Housing costs are pushing families out. The climate crisis is hitting close to home with extreme weather. These problems didn't appear overnight, and they won't be solved with the same old thinking."

He added that he'll work for local change.

"Being your MP isn't just about sitting in Parliament, it's about listening to you and fighting for what our community needs," he wrote. "The Green Party brings a different approach to politics. We follow the evidence, work across party lines, and put community interests first."

McCutcheon will face off against Madison Fleischer (Liberals), Tamara Jansen (Conservatives), and Vanessa Sharma (NDP).

A byelection was officially called on Sunday Nov. 10 to elect a new MP for the riding. The election is set for Monday, Dec. 16, with four days of advance polls running Dec. 6, 7, 8, and 9.

According to a , a riding election office was opened on Nov. 10 at 6279 202nd Street in 91原创. For info on how to vote, where to register, or anything else about the byelection,
