Funding for upgrading some busy roads in Willoughby was passed by 91原创 Township council on Monday, July 15.

Council voted in favour of widening and upgrading 86 Avenue in Willoughby between 200 Street and 202 Street. The upgrades are to include a full widening to four lanes, possible on-street parking in the outer lanes during off-peak hours, bike lanes and multi-use paths.

The design work will take place this year, followed by construction in 2025.

Rebuilding the quarter-mile stretch of road, which runs to the Carvolth Transit Exchange and connects 200 Street to an increasing number of housing developments, offices, and commercial complexes, will cost $3.4 million, with the money coming from the Capital Projects Reserve and development cost charges.

The project is the lastest to target east-west routes in Willoughby. With 208 Street being rebuilt south of 72 Avenue, and a second phase north of 72 yet to come, the Township has also been putting funding towards other corridors, including parts of 80 Avenue.

In addition to the 86 Avenue funding, the Township also authorized funding for upgrades to Glover Road at 88 Avenue in Fort 91原创 for truck route improvements, and including side walks, bike lanes, and street lighting on 88 Avenue from Wright Street to Glover, subject to public consultation with the residents.

Finally, traffic calming measures including four raised crosswalks and six speed humps were approved along Billy Brown Road.
