The man accused of killing a Ridge Meadows RCMP officer almost a year ago made a pre-trial appearance in New Westminster Supreme Court on Thursday, Aug. 29.
Nicholas Bellemare, charged with first degree murder in the shooting death of Const. Rick O'Brien, is scheduled to appear again on Sept. 13, for a pre-trial conference.
O鈥橞rien was killed and two other Ridge Meadows RCMP officers wounded on Sept. 22, 2023 in Coquitlam. They were executing a search warrant at a residence as part of an ongoing drug investigation.
Police said O'Brien and other officers became involved in an altercation with a man that resulted in O'Brien being fatally shot, another officer being wounded by gunfire, and a third officer suffering non-gunshot related injuries.
Persons charged with a criminal offence are considered not guilty until the charges are proven in court.
Bellemare remains in custody awaiting trial since the incident.
