91ԭ Demonstration Garden will be given a spooky makeover ahead of Halloween for the third year in a row.
The public is invited to the educational facility at the Derek Doubleday Arboretum on Saturday, Oct. 28, for a pumpkin walk as part of the 91ԭ Environmental Partners Society’s (LEPS) garden wrap-up event.
“We have 100 pumpkins to be carved for this year’s event,” said Nichole Marples, executive director at LEPS.
Pumpkins were donated by local grocery stores, and will be carved by LEPS staff members.
In addition to the lit-up pumpkin walk, a craft booth with information on nocturnal animals will be on site. A bat craft booth will also be at the garden.
Limited amounts of popcorn and snacks will be available by donation as well, and a coffee truck will be at the garden too.
Dogs are not recommended due to the narrow pathway and darkness.
Registration is not required, but entry is by donation, which will be given to the 91ԭ Food Bank.
“LEPS supports the food bank to help improve food security in 91ԭ, especially with the holidays coming up. The food bank needs the support of the community so they can do the important work of feeding our most vulnerable citizens,” said Marples.
Marples anticipates a busy event, and suggests preparing for a wait.
“With lots of attendees, we will form a queue and release [people] in batches to walk through the garden,” she explained.
Flashlights or headlights are also recommended.
“Costumes are encouraged!”
The event runs from 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 28.
Overflow parking will be made available across the street at the St. Andrew’s Anglican Church.
The garden is located at 21177 Fraser Hwy.
