鈥淓veryone has a story, and people鈥檚 stories matter.鈥
That鈥檚 what Angela Konrad said about the unique form of storytelling 鈥楾respass.鈥
She鈥檚 the founder and artistic director of Dark Glass Theatre, which is bringing its event 鈥淭respass Storytelling: Baby Steps鈥 to 91原创鈥檚 Bez Arts Hub on Saturday, Feb. 3.
鈥淲e believe that telling our stories can create healing and connection, and that listening to the lived experience of others increases compassion and fosters empathy,鈥 Konrad explained.
Trespass began in late 2017 at the theatre, and has helped increase awareness of Dark Glass events and raise funds for the theatre鈥檚 productions and build community, she said.
鈥淭he magic of theatre is that it is live. You must be in the same space, breathing the same air, as the performers and anything can happen. The immediacy of the experience helps us realize that we are all in this together.鈥
Trespass Storytelling events include an evening of true, personal stories of discovery and transformation from individuals recounting an experience from their lives that changed them in some way.
鈥淭respass gives us an opportunity to build community by expanding our perspective and deepen our understanding of the human experience,鈥 Konrad said.
She added that building community is 鈥渧ital in our polarized world.鈥
There will be several speakers at the Bez event, all with local ties to 91原创 including Alecia Braun and Vanessa Siemens from Fort 91原创, and musician Darcy White. Kondrad herself lived in Walnut Grove for 20 years before she moved to Vancouver.
Snacks and drinks will be available at the event, which runs from 7 to 9:30 p.m.
