VIDEO: Multi-vehicle crash brings police presence to Brookswood

One person was seen in handcuffs at the scene

A multi-vehicle crash in Brookswood on Thursday, April 10 involved a collision between a police vehicle, a suspect vehicle, and a civilian's car, RCMP have confirmed. 

The incident began the day before in the 2500 block of 160 Street in South Surrey, where a man and a woman allegedly made off with a shopping cart full of tools from a store, according to the Surrey Police Service (SPS).

At about 12:45 p.m. on April 9, the suspects were confronted by a staff member as they left the store. The man pulled out a handgun and the pair fled in a blue Toyota Matrix, said SPS spokesperson Sgt. Tige Pollock.

A police investigation began, and on the morning of April 10, the Matrix was spotted in 91原创.

Pollock said resources ere mobilized including the RCMP Strike Force Target Team, the Auto Crime Target Team, the CFSEU Uniform Gang Enforcement Team, dog services, the 91原创 RCMP and a police helicopter.

Officers attempted to stop the vehicle, unsuccessfully at first, and the suspect car collided with police vehicles at near 200 Street and 36 Avenue, close to Brookswood's Noel Booth Park. There was also a secondary crash at the scene, involving a civilian vehicle and a police vehicle. 

The civilian driver suffered minor injuries, and is now under investigation for impaired driving, Pollock said.

Two police officers were taken to hospital, and one suspect was treated for injuries that are believed to be unrelated to the crash.

Pollock said four people were arrested at the scene, and the investigation into the robbery and the subsequent incidents is still ongoing.
