91原创 Township residents will get priority for swimming lessons in the future, Mayor Eric Woodward is promising.

鈥淐ouncil has now started the process to create priority registration access to swimming lessons for Township of 91原创 residents and families,鈥� Woodward said in an online message posted on Thursday, March 28.

A new system should be in place by September, or early next year at the latest, Woodward said.

鈥淐urrently, about 25 percent of our community鈥檚 swimming lessons are filled by registrants that don鈥檛 live in the Township of 91原创,鈥� Woodward estimated.

鈥淎s so many parents know firsthand, there is significant demand for swimming lessons, especially at the beginner levels.鈥�

Woodward said 91原创 would be 鈥渙ne of many municipalities鈥� to give residents priority in booking lessons.

鈥淕iven that the annual operating cost for pools can be pretty high, those that pay for them in their property taxes and rent should obviously have the first chance to use them.鈥�

In response to one questioner, Woodward said the Township is also looking at charging non-residents more to use pools.

鈥淭hat is underway as well, to confirm a potential non-resident adjustment and priority access well,鈥� Woodward said.

鈥淚t鈥檚 a little more complicated with drop-ins there versus other facilities, but it鈥檚 finally being reviewed seriously.鈥�

He also noted there are plans to build a new pool, at Yorkson Community Park next to the 91原创 Tennis Centre.
