91原创 teacher鈥檚 children鈥檚 book sheds light on Type 1 Diabetes

A 91原创 teacher鈥檚 newest book Think Big aims to fill a gap in children鈥檚 literature representing Type 1 Diabetes.

After her daughter was diagnosed with the condition, Rashda Munawar sought to incorporate subtle inclusion to the story.

鈥淚 aimed for subtle inclusion so that children managing diabetes can feel acknowledged and understood without feeling singled out,鈥 Munawar explained.

鈥淩epresentation is crucial. Every child deserves to see themselves reflected in the stories they read. That鈥檚 why I鈥檓 passionate about normalizing conditions like diabetes in children鈥檚 literature.鈥

Her other goal of the book was to introduce concepts of learning and embracing growth to children, and addressing the stuck feelings some people experience.

鈥淭hrough Maria鈥檚 journey (main character), young readers will discover that confronting fears is the first step toward success. And that 鈥楩AIL鈥 simply means 鈥榝irst attempt in learning.鈥 My intention is to empower them as they navigate obstacles, [while] fostering resilience and self-awareness along the way,鈥 Munawar said.

As a Grade 7 teacher at HD Stafford Middle School, Munawar is hopeful readers find joy in her book and utilize it as a guide for navigating their own emotions.

鈥淭his book emphasizes the value of embracing mistakes gracefully and overcoming fears through thoughtful reflection,鈥 she said.

Think Big is available for pre-order on Amazon and Munawar鈥檚 website, , until April 7.

It officially releases in June this year, and will also be on stands at local bookstores and libraries.
