The trial of a man accused of killing a man in a Walnut Grove motel in 2022 will finally begin on Monday, Oct. 28 in a courtroom in New Westminster Supreme Court.

Justin Bos faces a second degree murder charge in the death of Cody Mostat, 30, who was found unconscious in the Highway Motel on March 25, 2022. Police officers on the scene tried to revive Mostat, but he died at the scene.

Bos was charged in September of the same year. He has previous convictions for car theft, possession of a non-firearm prohibited weapon, and possession for the purpose of trafficking.

It has taken more than a year and a half to get from the end of the murder investigation and the laying of charges to the trial. Most recently, the start date, which was originally to have been on Oct. 21, has been pushed back by a week.

Bos has opted for a trial by judge and jury. Jury selection is scheduled to begin on Oct. 17.

In a separate case, Bos also faces a number of firearms charges, including trafficking in firearms or ammunition, linked to events which allegedly took place in Surrey and Richmond in 2021 and 2022. Those charges were transferred to B.C. Supreme Court for trial in September.

All persons charged with a crime are considered innocent until proven guilty.
