91原创 celebrates Youth Week with sports, community events

91原创鈥檚 young people will be at the forefront next week as celebrations for the 2024 Youth Week get underway.

BC Youth Week is celebrated annually during the first week of May to acknowledge the accomplishments and diversity of youth.

91原创 City, Township, and local youth are bringing a series of events for youth ages 12 to 18.

Youth Activity Pass in the City

Register for a free Youth Week Activity Pass at Timms Community Centre to access all eligible events during Youth Week.

鈥淲ith the Youth Week Activity Pass, youth will have free access to all single session fitness and sports programs, weight room, Games Room and Fitness Track at Timms Community Centre, and all youth drop-in activities including Teen Time, Girls Social, and Youth Night,鈥 explained Christine Daum, recreation supervisor.

- Wednesday, May 1

The City will kick-off Youth Week with a youth writing contest on Wednesday, May 1, at 3:30 p.m. in the Timms Community Centre.

Aimed for students in Grades 6 to 12, the contest will go until the end of May with a top prize of $100. There will also be games, and good will be provided. Drop-ins are welcome.

On the same day, the City is hosting a 鈥淵outh Week Kick-Off Party鈥 from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. It will include pizza, board games, Nintendo Switch games, and badminton at the Timms Community Centre.

- Thursday, May 2

In partnership with Foundry 91原创, a Girls Social event is scheduled for Thursday, May 2, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Timms Community Centre. The social is aimed to female identifying youth between Grades 6 and 12.

- Friday, May 3

For HD Stafford students, the school is hosting a Trivia Showdown at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, May 3. Prizes can be won.

- Saturday, May 4

On Saturday, May 4, a Youth Night Extravaganza is being hosted at the Timms Community Centre also in partnership with Foundry 91原创.

There will be an open gym and barbecue from 4 to 6 p.m., followed by a movie screening with popcorn, cotton candy, barbecue, and slurpees until 9:30 p.m.

Timms Community Centre is located at 20399 Douglas Cres.

A Youth Activity Pass can be booked online for free at , or at the community centre.

Get fit in the Township

In the 91原创 Township until May 7, activities are being offered for youth such as pickleball, skating, and swimming at local community centres.

On Wednesday, May 1, the Walnut Grove Community Centre is holding a 鈥楶aint and Pancakes Night鈥 from 5 to 7 p.m. for a $5 registration fee.

Youth are invited to participate in a Bob Ross inspired painting activity while making and eating pancakes on site. All supplies are provided.

To make a public swim more interesting, the Aldergrove Credit Union Community Centre is holding a cheesy-snacks focused night, where youth can make macaroni and cheese or grilled cheese with their friends. The event is on May 3 starting at 7:30 p.m., and requires a $5 registration fee.

A similar public swim event is being held on May 4 at W.C. Blair Recreation Centre featuring pizza at 5 p.m., also with a fee of $5.
