Charges in Aldergrove police station crash

Driver arrested after crashing into the community policing station on Fraser Highway on Sunday

Charges have been laid against an Abbotsford man who crashed into the 91原创 RCMP Aldergrove Community Policing Station Sunday night.

The driver, who was arrested for impaired operation of a motor vehicle after leaving the scene, is being charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle causing bodily harm.

Just before 8:30 p.m. on Oct. 29, 91原创 RCMP received a report of a motor vehicle crashing into the station at 26970 Fraser Highway.

91原创 RCMP Cpl. Craig van Herk said officers arrived to find several witnesses at the scene assisting a female occupant out of a vehicle that had crashed into the office.

鈥淔irst Aid was initiated and BC Emergency Health Services responded, took over care of the female and she was transported to hospital,鈥 van Herk said.

鈥淲itnesses at the scene advised the driver had left the collision scene on foot. The driver was located a short distance away and arrested. He was transported to 91原创 Detachment for further investigation.鈥

Witness information has determined the incident may have begun further east on Fraser Highway, police said.

According to eyewitness accounts posted to social media, a dark four-door sedan with front-end damage could be seen in motion with the driver鈥檚 side door open and one person half-way out of the door shortly before it veered off Fraser Highway and hit the building.

A lower part of the front wall of the building appeared to have been caved in, and the window pane above that was cracked.

A nearby street sign appeared to have been knocked down, and was surrounded by yellow police evidence markers until late afternoon that day.

Multiple uniformed officers were on the scene, including members of the Lower Mainland Integrated Police Dog Service.

Fraser Highway from 268th to 276th Streets was closed to traffic in both directions until about 1 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 30, while the 91原创 RCMP Criminal Collision Investigation Team (CCIT), Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service (ICARS) and the Integrated Forensic Identification Section (IFIS) investigated.

Police are requesting anyone who may have dash cam, cellphone, or surveillance video relating to this incident or anyone that witnessed the collision, the driving prior to it, or has information about the incident to contact 91原创 RCMP at 604-532-3200.

An Abbotsford man was charged Oct. 29, believed to be connected to this incident.

People are naming a possible suspect on social media, but the 91原创 Advance Times was unable to confirm the identity prior to press time.
