Those seeking to set off a firework display locally in their neighbourhood have to purchase a permit to do so.

Last year, the Township beefed up its bylaws for the selling and setting off fireworks.

Selling fireworks requires a valid Fireworks Supervisor鈥檚 Certificate, issued by Natural Resources Canada, a Township business license, and a $1,500 permit fee.

Actually setting off fireworks requires the same certificate and a submitted site plan, approval from the property owner, at least $5 million in liability insurance, and a permit fee of $100.

91原创 City has for fireworks displays, and outright bans the sale of fireworks within municipal limits.

So far, no permit applications have been submitted, said Russ Jenkins, deputy fire chief with the Township fire department.

鈥淲e don鈥檛 issue permits for fireworks unless they are industrial or commercial grade fireworks for official displays,鈥� he explained.

A concern with fireworks this Halloween is the dryness of the environment after a summer of drought.

鈥淎lthough the weather has started to turn now, conditions are still dry out. There鈥檚 a lot of dry grass, dry felds, dry underbrush,鈥� Jenkins cautions.

鈥淲e don鈥檛 support the use of fireworks locally.鈥�

Anyone concerned about fireworks being fired off illegally can contact the township at fireworkscomplaint@tol.ca, through the Township鈥檚 , or call bylaw enforcement during regular office hours, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday.

For a bylaw infraction, the Township asks that people provide their name, phone number, the address where the incident is taking place, and a photograph of the incident.
