All invited to Aldergrove overdose awareness event

Public 'Table Talks' is on Oct. 16 at Kinsmen Community Centre

The public is invited to join an evening of conversation at a Table Talks event to discuss substance use in the local neighbourhood.

Hosted by the 91原创 Community Action Team (LCAT), the event aims to raise awareness of the overdose crisis and provide an opportunity for the community to participate in meaningful dialogues around the complex issue of substance use, said Daniel Snyder, chair and project coordinator.

"Focusing on the theme of 'reframing,' Table Talks aims to shift the way we think and talk about substance use. Rather than viewing it through a lens of 'good or bad,' this evening will encourage participants to explore substance use as a multifaceted personal and societal issue," he said.

This is the second in a series by LCAT, the first held in August leading up to International Overdose Awareness Day on Aug. 31.

"By attending, participants can learn more about the overdose crisis, discover ways to support loved ones, and join in the collective effort to combat stigma and save lives," Snyder added.

The event is free to attend, no registration required, and free refreshments and desserts will be provided.

It takes place on Wednesday, Oct. 16, at 6:30 p.m. in the Aldergrove Kinsmen Community Centre, located at 26770 29 Ave.

Since the province declared the overdose crisis a public emergency in 2016, there have been 334 deaths in 91原创.
