Aldergrove family hosting 2nd annual bottle drive at legion

Fundraiser takes place Saturday, Aug. 24

For a second year, a bottle drive fundraiser benefiting the Township of 91原创 Firefighters' Charities snack program is being held at the Aldergrove legion branch on Saturday, Aug. 24.

Organized by longtime Aldergrove resident Denise Wiggins, the fundraiser began last year as a way to give back to the community.

"A bottle drive felt right as it's an easy way for the community to contribute and help make a difference," she said.

Last year, the bottle drive raised $1,500 between cash and bottle donations, and Wiggins hopes for a similar amount this year.

"We hope to get bigger every year and surpass the previous year's donation."

Wiggins learned about the TOLFC snack program through her husband, who is a first responder.

"I chose the school snack program specifically because it provides nutritious meals to students who may not have access to wholesome food," she said.

"Every student deserves the chance to achieve academic success, and by ensuring access to nutritious food, the school snack program promotes both health and learning."

The bottle drive runs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., and firefighters will be on site with a fire truck.

For those who can't make it, Wiggins said bottles can be dropped off at any Return-It depot with the account 604-880-5603 year-round.

"Simply place sticker labels on the bags and drop off, no sorting required," Wiggins noted.

The Aldergrove legion branch is located at 26607 Fraser Hwy.
