Aldergrove Community Station House now protected heritage site

91原创 Meals on Wheels (LMOW) assumed ownership of the Aldergrove Community Station House from the Township of 91原创 on Tuesday, Sept. 24.

The station house is the former fire hall in Aldergrove that opened in 1959, holding significant historic value in the community.

"The land was originally acquired a few councils ago to demolish, but thanks to advocacy from the community, will remain a protected heritage asset," said Mayor Eric Woodward.

"It's now owned by LMOW to help them serve all of 91原创 to ensure everyone in our community is fed, connected, and supported."

Transfer of ownership included a $1.5 million grant over the next 25 years, plus an addition $375,000 from the Aldergrove Amenity Fund by the Township to support renovations. It is the largest one-time grant by the Township to an organization.

Renovations will be done to expand the society's operations, including a second floor community hub and improvements to accessibility.

"This is an exciting time for LMOW. Acquiring the station house allows us to broaden our reach and deepen our impact within the community," said Shannon Woykin, executive director of LMOW.

"With the building secured, we can move forward with confidence knowing we have a dedicated location to continue serving and supporting those in need. We look forward to creating a space that honours the history of this building while meeting the evolving needs of those we serve."

Deanna Horn, chair of the LMOW board, echoed similar sentiments at the announcement.

"This partnership not only honours the history of this beloved building, but also allows us to secure our future as a cornerstone of the community," she said.

LMOW is located at 2900 272 St., open Mondays to Fridays, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
