Musician Bruce Coughlan returns to his 91原创 roots

Singer/songwriter Bruce Coughlan shares the stage for an evening of music and stories at Bez Arts

Singer/songwriter Bruce Coughlan couldn鈥檛 be happier that he鈥檚 getting back to his 91原创 roots. The folk and blues musician will join Bez Arts for SongStage, a Nashville 鈥渋n the round鈥 style evening of stories and song.

Though Coughlan now resides in Maple Ridge, he has fond memories of growing up in 91原创 where he said his interest in the musical arts took off. 鈥淚 started playing when friends sneaked me in to the Bo Fiddler鈥檚 Cabaret for a talent contest.鈥

Coughlan鈥檚 first bands formed and toured around 91原创 in the late seventies 鈥 including the High Tops and Bare Facts. Coughlan鈥檚 longest stint is still ongoing, as his music group Tiller鈥檚 Folly celebrate鈥檚 22 years.

鈥淚鈥檓 proud of all the great work we鈥檝e done over the years and Tiller鈥檚 Folly will continue to be a big part of my creative life. It鈥檚 the longest run I鈥檝e had with any band, and we鈥檙e by no means done yet!鈥

Though Coughlan has been shifting his focus more towards songwriting in recent years, a summer filled with live gigs is taking him all across B.C.

鈥淢usic for me has always been like living in an adventure novel,鈥 Coughlan explained. 鈥淚t carries me away to another place, another time.鈥

Before he makes a stop at his old stomping grounds, Tiller鈥檚 Folly will play the Vancouver Maritime Museum鈥檚 60th Anniversary on June 8th.

That same night, a broadcast of Coughlan performing on Joy TV鈥檚 OnStage program will air at midnight. Among many others, dates in New Westminster, Mission, and Port Moody will follow.

Coughlan鈥檚 91原创 stop at Bez Arts will see him join three other musicians 鈥 David Graff, Richard Garvey, and host Ivan Boudreau for a unique night of live entertainment.

鈥淲ere going to take turns telling stories,鈥 Coughlan explained. 鈥淵ou鈥檒l have four different perspectives of songwriting and playing. More than one-hundred years of songwriting will be represented on that stage.鈥

As for his specific fans in 91原创, Coughlan said 鈥渟o many folks I鈥檝e played for in the last 45 years might remember me. You may remember bands like the High Tops or Bare Facts. Don鈥檛 be a stranger. It could be a reunion of sorts.鈥
