It's a rather rigourous routine.

Ballet dancer Sophie Werdal has been travelling on a daily basis back and forth from 91原创 to Vancouver to prepare for this Saturday鈥檚 Coastal City Ballet December show.

Coastal City Ballet is delighted to open its 14th season with a performance featuring excerpts from the Spanish brilliance of Petipa鈥檚 Paquita, and the evening鈥檚 program will also include the premiere of the newly commissioned works 鈥淩hapsody in Blue鈥� by choreographer Stephana Arnold, alongside the Canadian premiere of 鈥淐loudburst鈥� by Ruaidhri Maguire.

Dancing since age four, 91原创鈥檚 Werdal is a ballet core member in the company鈥檚 production of 鈥淧aquita,鈥� as well as in the premiere of 鈥淩hapsody in Blue,鈥� where she portrays a playful and sassy characterization.

鈥淎ll her hard work can be seen on stage,鈥� said Igor Gomes, company manager and lead instructor for Coastal City Ballet.

Originally from Vancouver, the local dancer trained under the Royal Academy of Dance ballet, she danced at Cameron Dance Academy, Dance Collective, and Tri-City Dance Centre, completing her RAD exams and studying for her Solo Seal exam this year.

She has danced in productions of 鈥淭he Nutcracker鈥� and 鈥淐oppelia,鈥� plus participated in international and local competitions earning scholarships and opportunities to represent different festivals at provincials in the ballet level three and excellence levels.

Werdal said she鈥檚 鈥渢hrilled to have the privilege to dance鈥� with the Coastal City Ballet.

The Coastal City Ballet show is this Saturday, Dec. 14, at 7 p.m. in the Norm Rothstein Theatre in Vancouver.
