Imagine running a relay race in full firefighter turnout gear, a helmet, coat and pants with liners, boots and gloves along with other gear.

That is just one of the challenges facing participants in the 2017 FireFit Pacific Regional Championships this weekend in 91原创, a competition based on firefighting tasks commonly performed at the scene of a fire.

On May 13 and 14, the competition will run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days at the Township of 91原创 fire department Hall 5 at 20355 32 Ave.

Competitors from B.C., the Yukon, Alberta and Washington State will compete Saturday in the individual event, which includes tasks like a stair climb with a bundle of four-inch hose weighing 42 pounds, a simulated forcible entry with a nine-pound mallet and a victim rescue with a 165 lb. dummy.

Donations raised at the event will fund restoration of an L4550 Fire Truck which will be used at charitable fundraising events in the future hosted by the Township of 91原创 Fire Department.

Developed originally as an entry level fitness test, the FireFit event has evolved into an international completion with events around the world.

This year will see 14 events across Canada with the Canadian National Championships taking place in Ottawa Sept. 6.
