He travelled to Tijuana, Mexico for his professional boxing debut and won with a first-round knockout.
South Surrey boxer Darcy Hinds — also a stuntman, actor and former volunteer White Rock firefighter — has represented Canada in more than 150 bouts across North America earlier in his career, winning multiple titles along the way.
The middleweight fighter said he was surprised to win in the first round, at the 2:26 mark.
"It felt amazing! I wanted it to go three rounds at least ... it was my special debut," Hinds said after returning to Canada after the late-February bout.
"I wanted to soak it all in, but I dropped him with a right hand to the body ... I felt it sink in to his ribs and thought, 'He's probably not going to get up.' And he didn't."
Hinds was the title fight in his pro debut, entitled the Salon Conchita, which featured 10 other fights on the card.
He noted that Tijuana is "rated the most dangerous city in the world."
"I was more concerned about Tijuana than I was about the fight," he said with a chuckle. "I didn't know what to expect."
Boxing has always been his passion, the fighter, who grew up in White Rock and South Surrey, noted.
Inspired by fighters such as Bruce Lee and Superman, Hinds started in martial arts before moving into amateur boxing.
His fighting talent even led to an extensive acting and stunting career, with movies and TV shows including X-Men Apocalypse, Riverdale, Turner & Hooch (2021) and Supergirl, among others.
He currently trains with coach Scotty Jackson in Surrey as well as in East Vancouver and other gyms, and even his own backyard, where he has a ring set up.
Hinds, happy with his pro debut victory, is ready for more, and hinted at a potential upcoming fight in Cloverdale in April, but couldn't yet confirm details.
He also praised and thanked his family, friends, his girlfriend and "everyone else who helped me along the way," giving props to Queensborough Boxing Club, Eastside Boxing and Box2fit boxing clubs as well.
Hinds gave special tribute to his father, who passed away a few years ago, for his "consistent encouragement and support."
