A rainfall warning for much of Metro Vancouver remained in effect Sunday morning, as Environment Canada also issued two highway alerts for drivers.
Due to an atmospheric river bringing periods of heavy rain to B.C.'s south coast, "a long episode of rain, at times heavy, continues," the federal agency said on its website Sunday (March 9).
Total rainfall amounts near 75 to 120 millimetres was forecast, with the rainfall warning in effect for parts of the Lower Mainland, including Maple Ridge, Vancouver, New Westminster and other areas through Sunday afternoon
"Rain will taper off this afternoon as the feature pushes southeastward and weakens," Environment Canada noted, adding heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads.
"Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible."
The agency also cautioned motorists travelling on the Sea to Sky highway of the heavy rainfall that is expected, while a snowfall warning is in effect for the Coquihalla Highway from Hope to Merritt. with "heavy snowfall and challenging driving conditions expected."
