Police investigate single-vehicle collision on Surrey-91Ô´´ border

Jaws of Life used to help get driver out after Sunday crash

First responders in Surrey helped the victim of a single-vehicle collision on the Surrey-91Ô´´ border Sunday evening (Jan. 26).

Shortly after 10 p.m. Sunday, Surrey firefighters responded to reports of a rollover vehicle crash in the 6900-block of 196 Street, on the border of the two municipalities.

Crews arrived to find dozens of civilians assisting a driver trapped in his pick-up truck, a photographer at the scene said.

The vehicle was travelling uphill northbound on 196 Street when it lost control, took out a light standard, damaged a tree and came to rest on its side in the middle of the road. Surrey Fire crews used the Jaws of Life to remove the roof of the vehicle to access the driver, he also noted.

While the road was closed after the crash, Surrey Police Service senior media relations officer Staff Sgt. Lindsey Houghton said Monday morning it was re-opened two hours afterward.
