Abbotsford Canucks sign North Vancouver's Layton Ahac to one-year contract

Defenceman spent past four seasons with Henderson Silver Knights

The Abbotsford Canucks have signed defenceman Layton Ahac to a one-year contract.

The American Hockey League club announced the move on Tuesday (July 23).

The 23-year-old has played with the Henderson Silver Knights (affiliate of the Vegas Golden Knights) since the 2020-21 season and has collected 17 points and 59 penalty minutes in 148 games. He added one goal in three career AHL playoff games.

Ahac, a 6-2 North Vancouver product, was drafted by Henderson in the third round (86th overall) of the 2019 NHL Draft. He played for the North Shore Winter Club growing up and then spent time with the West Vancouver Academy Elite program and the Vancouver NorthWest Giants of the BCEHL.

Ahac joined the BCHL's Prince George Spruce Kings in 2017-18 and was named to the league's all-rookie team. He went on to be named a second team BCHL all-star in 2018-19 and helped Prince George win both the Fred Page (BCHL) and Doyle Cup (BCHL/AJHL) in 2019. Ahac scored 32 points in 53 games in 2018-19 and added 17 points in 17 playoff games.

Following his time in Prince George, he played two seasons for THE Ohio State University and recorded 12 points in 63 games.
