Getting a car soaked will help local students celebrate dry grad.
D.W. Poppy Secondary's graduating class will benefit from a car wash at the Aldergrove Legion, 26607 Fraser Hwy., on Saturday, April 12 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Car washing is by donation. There鈥檚 also hotdogs, and pop and water for sale.
"In the past years the car wash has been very successful with 100-plus cars, especially if the weather is cooperative," said Natasha Worsfold, the dry grad chair. "We are hoping to raise $1,000 for the after grad festivities. This is our last big fundraiser of the year.
Throughout the year, schools work to raise funds to provide a safe, drug- and alcohol-free celebration for students who have made the grade.
"This year we have 155 grads. We have 20 to 25 student volunteers and 10 parent volunteers helping on the day, and our committee of five have been helping out behind the scenes," she said.
Another fundraiser is taking place.
"We are currently selling hanging baskets," Worsfold added.
Coupons are for sale until April 30 for $34.99 and buyers can choose their baskets from Clearview Garden Centre after May 2. Learn more at clearviewgardenshop.com/product/dw-poppy-dry-grad-2025/.
"Dry Grad is the parent organized and run, alcohol-free and drug-free event where graduates enjoy a safe place to celebrate. Participating students are bussed directly from their dinner/dance to the venue," Worsfold explained. "The event runs late into the night/next morning. It鈥檚 a fun-filled atmosphere where the grads enjoy food, refreshments, music and many forms of entertainment and activities."
This year the grads are celebrating at The Koop in 91原创.
"It is a quaint property where we will have a DJ, a caricature artist, and a magician and photo booth. There are ping pong tables, and we will have a quiet area with movies. We are serving mocktails, and hors d'oeuvres and pizza! There will be a candy table and a dessert table," she said.
